The best co-working spaces and laptop friendly cafes in London

Lockdown has truly changed the way we work forever. Home used to be our end of the day sanctuary, a place we yearned to go to when time lumbered on at the office. Now the acronym WFH is a permanent part of our vocabulary and its meaning, our new normality.

Offices are embracing the new working, post-Covid-19 norm, providing their staff with flexible working hours; offering the hybrid model, or fully remote.
While there are many proven benefits to WFH, such as an increase in employee satisfaction and productivity, the lack of interaction with other employees can be isolating. People may also experience cabin fever for not leaving their house for long periods.

The solution? Working away from home at a co-working space or laptop friendly café. Check out our roundup of the coolest places to work from, away from the office and from home.

Oru Space, East Dulwich

Oru, which means At One, in Tamil, is a community-led co-working space that offers so much more than a hot desk and limitless coffee. They offer yoga, Reiki, sound bath workshops, acupuncture, and even counselling. Sounds amazing, doesn't it? However, you must pay a membership fee, which starts from £175.  Totally worth it if you are into wellness, a community spirit and good vibes.

TRIBE, Streatham

This black-owned, vegan, plant-based café is a cosy co-working space with a chilled, relaxed vibe. Thought vegan food was bland? Think again. A favourite dish is their crispy battered aubergines topped with a katsu curry sauce and flavoursome fried rice.  The café also sells house plants, so expect to walk into a mini jungle on your way in.

Prince of Peckham, Peckham

As the name suggests, this hipster pub is definitely the crown jewel of Peckham!  The décor blends the old with the new and boasts a Caribbean inspired menu from the award winning White Men Can't Jerk.  The pub is laptop friendly, providing you with a comfortable space to work from for as long as you want. Bottomless coffee is available between 12-4pm for just £10.

Look Mum, No Hands, Old Street

Coffee shop, bike repair workshop, bar, café and co-working space is what this place is in a nutshell. The concept behind Look Mum, No Hands is so erratic, and yet, this is what makes it a unique experience.  It is a one-of-a-kind bike enthusiastic café, where one can grab a coffee, drink a beer, or work from their laptop whilst their punctured tyre gets repaired. Non-cyclists are welcome too!

Shaman, Bermondsey

Like your coffee with a slice of wellness? Then you will love Shaman.
They call themselves Shaman to emphasise how the slow food movement can serve as a holistic medicinal alternative.
Inspired by the Californian desert, the earthy tones of Shaman Coffee Bermondsey and concrete of the co-working space are the perfect cosy setting for a meeting, laptop day or coffee with a friend.

Mare Street Market

Under one roof, you can get a pizza, a tattoo, buy a bunch of Instagram-worthy flowers, or simply drink a cup of artisan coffee. Welcome to Mare Street Market. A massive building divided into different rotating popups and shops, whilst serving great food, drink and most importantly, a space to work from (and go get inked during your lunch break).
